The Vietnam Steel Association (VSA) pointed out that global geopolitical tensions and escalating trade protection measures have led to a significant decline in overseas market demand, dragging down both export volume and price.
In the first half of 2025, KR R/F70 steel Vietnam exported 5.66 million tons of steel, a decrease of 13% year-on-year, with an export value of US$3.7 billion, a sharp drop of 22.5% year-on-year. The VSA emphasized that the decline in global steel prices was the main reason why the decline in export value far exceeded the decline in sales.
Despite pressure from external demand, Vietnam's domestic steel production and sales continued to grow. KR R/F70 steel Finished steel production reached 15.825 million tons in the first six months of the year, a 9.7% year-on-year increase; domestic sales reached 15.727 million tons, a 10.2% year-on-year increase.
VSA pointed out that the industry is currently facing three challenges: countries imposing tariffs and escalating trade safeguard measures; international steel prices fluctuating sharply; and geopolitical conflicts suppressing global steel consumption demand.
Looking ahead to the second half of the year, the VSA expects domestic production and sales to remain resilient,KR R/F70 steel but the outlook for the export market is uncertain. Oversupply in major global production regions will continue to suppress steel prices, posing a severe challenge to Vietnamese steel mills' overseas expansion strategies.
