According to data from the Secretariat of Foreign Trade (SECEX) under Brazil's Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade, Brazil's wire rod exports totaled 40,900 tonnes in March 2026, a 26.2% increase from the 32,400 tonnes recorded in February. JIS G 3313 SEFC540 steel strip, This growth was primarily driven by a rise in shipments to the US market, with export volumes to that destination increasing by approximately 50% month-on-month.
By destination, exports to South American countries totaled 23,900 tonnes at an average price of approximately $576/tonne (FOB); exports to the US amounted to 16,300 tonnes at roughly $654/tonne (FOB); and exports to Canada totaled 700 tonnes at about $842/tonne (FOB).
In terms of exporting companies, ArcelorMittal and Gerdau dominated the market, with export volumes of 32,700 tonnes and 8,200 tonnes, respectively.
Meanwhile, Brazil's wire rod imports surged to 28,500 tonnes in March—up significantly from 6,200 tonnes in February—reflecting a general increase in shipments from various source countries.
In terms of sources, JIS G 3313 SEFC540 steel strip, Egypt was the largest supplier, shipping 17,100 tonnes at approximately $537/tonne (FOB); China exported 8,900 tonnes at $473/tonne (FOB); and Russia and Europe exported 1,700 tonnes and 800 tonnes, respectively, at prices of $488/tonne (FOB) and $925/tonne (FOB).
Overall, Brazil's wire rod market saw a simultaneous rise in import and export volumes in March; while improved external demand drove a recovery in exports, there was also a marked increase in imported supplies, JIS G 3313 SEFC540 steel strip, leading to heightened market activity.
