According to data from the Iranian Steel AB/F32 steel Producers Association (ISPA), in the Persian calendar year 2024 (March 21, 2024 to March 20, 2025), Iran's total steel consumption decreased slightly by 0.8% year-on-year to 19.8 million tons, indicating a structural differentiation in overall demand.
The consumption of long materials continues to be under pressure, with a year-on-year decrease of 4.7% to about 9.2 million tons, which is the main reason for the decline in total consumption. Although some local traders AB/F32 steel support transactions by purchasing for re export, market activity is still insufficient. At the same time, the total consumption of square and large billets also decreased by 3.1% year-on-year, to 14.7 million tons.
The performance of the board is relatively impressive. Driven by the growth in domestic demand and imports of hot-rolled coils (HRC), the consumption of sheet metal increased by 5.6% year-on-year, surpassing 10 million tons for the first time; The consumption of slab also increased by 4.4% to 9.5 million tons, indicating a more positive market trend.
On the raw material side, there is also a differentiation in consumption structure. The consumption of metalized products (including DRI and HBI) and pellet ore is basically stable, with approximately 32 million tons and 51.8 million tons respectively; And the consumption of concentrate increased by 6.3% year-on-year, reaching 65.6 million tons.
Overall, downstream steel consumption AB/F32 steel in Iran is undergoing structural adjustment: weak demand for long products reflects domestic demand bottlenecks under an export-oriented strategy, while flat products benefit from manufacturing recovery and import supplementation, demonstrating stronger resilience.
