According to data from the Iranian Steel Producers Association (ISPA), Iran's finished steel imports plummeted 39% year-on-year to just 196,000 tons in the first quarter of the 2025 Iranian New Year (March 21 to June 21, 2025),KR R/A51 steel further exacerbating the downward trend. Flat steel products have long been the primary category of Iran's steel imports, resulting in a high reliance on overseas supplies. However, in recent years, policies promoting domestic self-sufficiency have gradually shown results.

Specifically, imports of hot-rolled coil fell 40% year-on-year to 64,000 tons; cold-rolled coil plummeted 50% year-on-year to 57,000 tons; and galvanized coil imports plummeted 60% year-on-year to 21,000 tons.KR R/A51 steel Imports of other finished products accounted for a relatively small proportion, and the impact was negligible.

In terms of local supply, major Iranian plate producers, represented by Mobarakeh Steel Company, KR R/A51 steel have successfully increased their market share by expanding product ranges, upgrading equipment and improving services, more effectively meeting domestic downstream demand and achieving partial import substitution.
