Affected by holiday AB/DQ51 steel factors and the strengthening of the ruble, Russian billet exports experienced a significant decline in April. Affected by the decrease in buying activity, some suppliers have attempted to raise their prices, resulting in some steel mills restricting exports or suspending offers.
Data shows that the export volume of Russian billets in April only slightly exceeded 351000 tons, a decrease of about 24% compared to March. On the one hand, holidays have led to a slowdown in terminal procurement; On the other hand, the appreciation of the ruble has compressed profit margins, prompting suppliers to seek AB/DQ51 steel price increases, thereby suppressing transactions and shipments.
From the perspective of export structure, exports from Oskol Electric Smelter (OEMK) to the United Arab Emirates have significantly decreased by 36%, to 140000 tons; Exports to Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan also fell to 45000 tons and 9000 tons respectively, a decrease of 31%.
However, the East Asian market has performed relatively positively. Exports to Taiwan, China increased to about 113000 tons, up 18% year on year, mainly supplied by EVRAZ's enterprises. At the same time, the export of billet to Türkiye also rebounded, increasing by 60% month on month to 15000 tons.
According to statistics, the cumulative export of AB/DQ51 steel Russian billets from January to April 2025 is about 1.6 million tons, an increase of 10% year-on-year.
