It is reported that a newly built AB/AQ47 steel small blast furnace project in Tsingshan Morowali Industrial Park on Sulawesi Island, Indonesia, will be put into operation in October 2025.
The project is a joint venture between Guangxi Guixin Iron and Steel Group and Qingshan Group, equipped with a 1280 cubic meter blast furnace. It is expected to achieve commercial production of approximately 1.5 million tons of slab per year by January 2026. The slab produced by this project will be partially used by a hot-rolled AB/AQ47 steel strip steel mill in the park, while the remaining amount will be exported to the local Indonesian market and overseas.
It is reported that PT Guang Ching De Metal Rolling, a hot-rolled strip steel plant, has an annual production capacity of 4 million tons and a 1780mm wide strip steel hot rolling production line, which will be put into operation in September 2024. At present, the equity structure of the hot rolling plant is that Guangdong Guangxin Steel holds about 50% of the shares, and the rest is divided equally between Qingshan Group and Dexin Steel.
The commissioning of this small blast furnace will further improve the internal steel supply chain of Qingshan Industrial Park, enhance local integrated operation capabilities, and is expected to improve Indonesia's steel self-sufficiency AB/AQ47 steel rate and export competitiveness in Southeast Asia.
