JSW Steel India SBV2 steel plans to increase the crude steel production capacity of its comprehensive steel plant in Dolvi by 3.7 million tons per year by 2026, and has commissioned SMS Group to provide a series of equipment for the expansion project, including a 350 ton Basic Oxygen Furnace (BOF), supporting dual ladle furnaces, gas purification equipment, and corresponding primary and secondary automation systems. After the completion of this expansion, the crude steel production of JSW Steel's Dorvi plant is expected to reach 13.7 million tons per year.
Previously, JSW Steel and SMS Group signed an agreement in March 2024 to commission the construction of a blast furnace with an annual output of 4.5 million tons in Dorvy, expected to be completed by March 2026.
In addition, JSW Steel has recently put into operation a blast furnace at the Vijayanagar plant, with plans to increase the plant's annual output to 5 million tons. By then, the total steel production capacity of Vijayanagar will reach 19 million tons per year.
In the previous quarter, JSW Steel's SBV2 steel subsidiary BPSL increased its production capacity by 1 million tons per year, reaching 4.5 million tons per year. JSW Steel plans to increase its overall production capacity in India from 34.2 million tons per year to 42 million tons per year by 2027. Among them, the annual output of Dorvy Steel Plant is expected to reach 15 million tons in 2027.
The expansion plan of JSW Steel not only helps to enhance the company's own production capacity, but also supports India's goal of achieving a steel production capacity of 300 million tons by 2030. However, according to data from the Indian Ministry of Steel on November 27, 2024, India's current steel production capacity is approximately 180 million tons per year, and an additional 120 million tons per year of SBV2 steel capacity is needed to meet the 2030 target. It is expected that achieving this goal will require approximately $120 billion in investment.
