On June 2, the Russian iron ore mining and steel company Severstal announced the decommissioning of the "150" section rolling mill at its flagship facility—the Cherepovets Steel Mill (CherMK) in the Vologda region of northwestern Russia—as its production capacity has been replaced by a new rolling mill. HX260YD+ZM steel strip ,The "150" mill had an annual output of 397,000 tonnes, and since commencing operations in 1966, it produced a cumulative total of over 38 million tonnes of wire rod.

The company stated that the production stoppage was due to the commissioning of the new No. 170 bar and wire rod mill; the new equipment replaced retired capacity while maintaining CherMK's total long product output. HX260YD+ZM steel strip ,With an investment of 15 billion rubles (US$185 million), the No. 170 mill is a key component of an end-to-end technological chain designed to produce high-quality long products for customers in the construction, mechanical engineering, energy, and mining sectors. The new facility has commenced production of wire rod, round bars, and rebar, with a portion of the output destined for further processing at Severstal-Metiz, the company's wire products division. In November 2025, Severstal commissioned the initial production lines of the No. 170 mill complex, comprising a reheating furnace, roughing, intermediate, and finishing mills, as well as a Stelmor cooling line.

Currently, the plant is conducting hot commissioning for a second Stelmor line, a Garrett coiler, and two straightening and cutting lines. HX260YD+ZM steel strip ,Once all production lines at Mill 170 are fully operational, its rolling capacity will reach 900,000 tonnes per year. CherMK’s total production capacity for long products is projected to remain between 1.0 million and 1.1 million tonnes per year; the majority of this output will come from Mill 170, with the remainder supplied by Mill 350—these two facilities comprising the entirety of CherMK’s long-product rolling mills.
