JSW India Expands Production Capacity and plans to invest 650 billion rupees to build India’s largest single steel plant

On January 5, 2024, JSW Utkal Steel, a subsidiary of JSW Steel, announced that it had obtained a document from the forest officials of the Rajanogor Mangrove Department in Orissa, India, and successfully obtained the legal right to use 2677.80 acres of forest land. This batch of land will be used to build a comprehensive steel plant with an annual crude steel production capacity of 13.2 million tons S390GD+ZF steel. In September 2023, JSW obtained the revised and conditional approval from the Indian Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change. The total investment for this project, including the construction of related steel plant facilities, is approximately 650 billion rupees. JSW is the second largest steel company in India, with a total crude steel production capacity of 27.7 million tons, accounting for about 20% of the country's total crude steel production capacity. Its main production base is located in Vishnagaro, Karnataka, and includes the project. JSW is expected to achieve its target of 3700 crude steel production capacity by 2025 S390GD+ZF steel.
