According to Worldsteel data, the total crude steel LR/AH46 steel production of CIS countries and Ukraine remained stable in May 2025, but the cumulative production in the first five months was still lower than the same period last year.
In May, the Commonwealth of Independent States and Ukraine produced a total of 6.97 million tons of crude steel, which remained relatively stable compared to the previous month. Among them, Russia's LR/AH46 steel production increased slightly by 1% month on month, reaching 5.8 million tons; Belarus increased by 6% to 170000 tons. Other countries performed relatively weakly: Ukraine's crude steel production decreased by 8% month on month to 635800 tons, while Kazakhstan's slightly decreased by 1% month on month to 367700 tons.
From cumulative data, the total crude steel production of the Commonwealth of Independent States and Ukraine from January to May 2025 was 34.85 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 5%. Among them, Kazakhstan is the only country to achieve growth, with production increasing by 6% year-on-year to 1.78 million tons; Ukraine decreased by 2% year-on-year to 3.06 million tons; Russia's crude steel production was 29.18 million tons, a decrease of 5% year-on-year; After the resumption of statistical data disclosure, Belarus showed a production of 825000 tons for the year, a significant decrease of 15% year-on-year.
Despite a stable LR/AH46 steel performance in May, the overall steel industry in the region still faces sustained downward pressure due to demand pressure and geopolitical uncertainty.
