Malaysia initiates anti-dumping investigation on galvanized sheet/curly hair from China, South Korea, and Vietnam

Malaysia SLA325B steel has initiated anti-dumping investigations on galvanized products from China, South Korea, and Vietnam. This investigation was initiated after a petition was submitted by CSC Steel Sdn Bhd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of CSC Steel Holdings Bhd (KL: CSCSTEL). The company claims that imported galvanized sheets/coils are sold at prices lower than normal market value, causing substantial damage to the Malaysian steel industry.

According to the Federal Government Gazette released on February 6th, the government has determined that there is sufficient evidence to conduct an anti-dumping duty investigation under Section 20 of the Anti Subsidy and Anti Dumping Tax Act.

The Malaysian Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) stated that the dumping of imported products has led to issues such as increased import volume, reduced local market share, and decreased industry profitability. Recently, all stakeholders, including the governments of China, South Korea, and Vietnam SLA325B steel, have been invited to submit evidence and arguments in response to the allegations. This investigation will assess whether the relevant imported products have caused harm to the domestic industry in Malaysia or may lead to the imposition of anti-dumping duties.

Other stakeholders may apply to participate in the investigation within 15 days from the announcement and must submit relevant responses within 30 days. MITI emphasizes that this investigation is part of Malaysia's SLA325B steel trade enforcement strategy, aimed at protecting local industries from unfair trade practices, and promises that the investigation will comply with international trade regulations and transparency standards.
